He may as well have said
Between the lines
In every argument
And especially
When the lights are off
And his power's in the bed.
You'd be dead!
In an emotional way
Were you to say
"But I'm free!
I own me!"

"I own you!"
A silent sentiment

"I own you!"
Rants this unfortunate soul.
"My self-esteem's not complete
Its damaged.
Deceit !
As a person

And in your workplace
A slap in the face
A disgrace that
Typifies most men
As in their greed
To succeed
They sow the seeds of bitter resentment.

"I own you!"
You've heard it said silently
Between whispered
Praises and phrases
Purporting to be love.
Small wonder
You are now free.
Only now can you say">

Only now can you say,
"I truly do own me!"
