FRIENDSHIP’S GOOD
26 April 2005
Friendship’s good.
Maybe that’s the way it should be;
Free from fetters and total commitment
The kind that often breeds resentment;
That state that many confuse with love.
Where lust, need and greed prevail;
In that human quest to excel;
To be better than the best
Lest one’s self esteem takes a dive
And we end up deprived,
Yet alive enough to recognise our own weaknesses.
Seeking internal affirmation
Of our own credibility.
It’s insanity!
How can we possibly be free to be
Just who we really are
Or to become the sum of all our parts
If our hearts are aligned with confusing emotions;
Making ridicule of common sense and rational thought?
For are not wars won and lost
And waged in the name of love;
That emotion said to be above base lust?
It’s just about as close to instinct as we can get.
Yet, it’s a holy grail for most;
A goal for the soul.
But once won it becomes the chain that stops us from growing;
And from becoming all that we can be
And to do the things we should.
You see…
Friendship’s really good.
